Risk Factors of Surgical Site Infections of Open Appendectomy:A Case-control Study

2010
OBJECTIVE To explore the risk factors of surgical site infections of open appendectomy.METHODS A 1∶2 matched case-control study was performed.Risk factors of surgical site infections were analyzed by single factor and multivariate conditional logistic regression.RESULTS There were 8 factors related to surgical site infections by single-factor conditional logistic regression analysis, including anesthesia type,ASA classification, diabetes, surgical wound classification, operative duration, preoperative leucocyte count, blood loss and hospitalization stay.Anesthesia type, diabetes, surgical wound classification and operative duration, which were the related factors causing surgical site infections, were screened out though multivariate logistic regression analysis.CONCLUSION General anesthesia, diabetes, contaminated cuts and operative duration more than 60 minutes are the risk factors for surgical site infections of open appendectomy.
