Discrimination of rested from sleep-deprived EEG in awake normal humans by artificial neural network

The authors have found qualitative changes in the EEG of awake but sleep derived volunteers. These qualitative changes take the form of a shift to lower frequencies in relative amplitude of fast Fourier transformed EEG. The paper looks at how, using the backpropagation algorithm, a 3 layer neural network was trained to discriminate rested from sleep deprived EEG. >
