BASAL POLE DETERMINATION ON ZIRCALOY-4 USING COMBINATION POLE FIGURE AND STEREOGRAPHIC PROJECTION METHOD. Basal pole of the hexagonal crystals structure play an important role in texture analysis. Comparison of c/a determines the characteristic of the pole figure 0002. In this study the basal pole of zircaloy-4 was analyzed using pole figure and stereographic projection. Experimental pole figure was obtained using texture diffractometer, DN2, BATAN with reflection at a wavelength of 1,279A. Zircaloy-4 has hexagonal structure, fromthe refinement of the neutron diffraction pattern, lattice parameters of Zircaloy-4 a = 3.2288 A and c = 5.1554 A was obtained, so that c/a = 1.597. The stereographic projection used three hkl, those are 100, 001 and 110 with range of planes distance (d) between 1A and 3A. Poles coordinate was determined using complete experimental pole figures of 100, 001, 101 and 110. From the complete pole figure, basal poles {001} could be determined from pole figures 100 and 110 in the poles coordinate of ( ρ,α ,δ ) = (90o , 0o , 90o ) and (90o , 0o , 270o ) in the direction of rolling. Detail of basal pole coordinates is shown in the pole figure 0002 where poles tilted about ± 40o away from the normal direction toward the transverse direction, and the pole(100) was aligned with the rolling direction, while the (110) directions pointed parallel to the transverse direction.
