Edirne merkez ilçede prematür ölümler, 2004 ve 2008/Premature mortality in provincial center of Edirne, 2004 and 2008

Ozet Amac: Bu calismada; Edirne Merkez ilce ve bagli koylerde 2004 ve 2008 yillarinda olan prematur olum nedenlerini ve bu olumlere bagli olusan potansiyel yasam yili kayiplarini belirlemek amaclanmistir. Yontem: Calisma kesitsel bir arastirmadir. Edirne Merkez ilce ve bagli koylerde 2004 ve 2008 yilinda meydana gelen olumler mezarlik, hastane, belediye ve adli tabiplik kayitlarindan derlenmistir. Olumler zaman, yer, cinsiyet ve nedenlerine yonelik olarak incelenmistir. Prematur olumlere bagli olusan Potansiyel Yasam Yili Kayiplari (PYYK, Years Potential Life Lost) hesaplanmistir. Bulgular: Edirne Merkez ilcede kaba olum hizi 2004 ve 2008 yillarinda sirasiyla binde 5.17 ve binde 5.48 olarak bulunmustur. 65 yas altinda gerceklesen olumler prematur olum olarak degerlendirilmistir. Prematur olum oranlari 2004 yilinda %34.9, 2008 yilinda %35.5 olarak tespit edilmistir. Prematur olumlerin 2004 yilinda %69.9’u, 2008 yilinda %65.8’i erkek olumleridir ve 2004 yilinda %14.3’u, 2008 yilinda %8.1’i kirsalda gerceklesmistir. Prematur olumlere bagli PYYK 2004 yilinda 4809 yil, 2008 yilinda 4929 yildir. Her iki yilda prematur olume neden olan ilk bes olum nedeni; dolasim sistemi hastaliklari, kanserler, iyi tanimlayan durumlar, kazalar, solunum sistemi hastaliklaridir. Sonuc: Edirne Merkez ilcede prematur olumler tum olumlerin yaklasik ucte birini olusturmaktadir ve en sik gorulen prematur olum nedenleri dolasim sistemi hastaliklari ve kanserlerdir. Anahtar Kelimeler: Prematur mortalite, potansiyel yasam yili kaybi Abstract Objective: This study determined the causes of premature mortalities, the potential years of life lost (PYLL) and the economic losses due to premature mortality in the provincial centre of Edirne. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study. Mortality data in Edirne for the calendar years 2004 and 2008 were compiled from records in hospitals, cemeteries, forensic medicine centers and municipal offices. Mortality data were analyzed according to time, place, gender and causes of deaths. Potential years of life lost due to premature mortality in the provincial Centre of Edirne were computed. Results: The crude mortality rate was 5.17 and 5.48 per thousand in 2004 and 2008 respectively in Edirne. Deaths before 65 years were assessed as premature mortality. The premature mortality rate was 34.9% in 2004 and 35.5% in 2008. Of these nearly 70% in 2004 and 65.8% in 2008 were male and 14.3% in 2004 and 8.1% in 2008 occurred in rural parts of Edirne. PYLL due to premature deaths were 4809 in 2004 and 4929 in 2008. The five major causes of premature mortality in both 2004 and 2008 were cardiovascular system diseases, cancers, symptoms and other ill-defined conditions, accidents and respiratory system diseases. Conclusions: Premature deaths were 1/3 of all deaths in provincial center of Edirne and cardiovascular system diseases and cancers were a major causes of premature deaths.
