Effect of intracerebroventricular injection of PGE2 and 5HT on body temperature, heart rate and rumen motility of conscious goats

1983
Abstract Changes in rumen motility and heart rate following injection of 5-HT and PGE 2 into the third cerebral ventricle were investigated in conscious goats. The doses used were known to produce predictable changes in thermoregulation in goats. The changes in body temperature, ear temperature (PGE 2 , 5-HT) and shivering (PGE 2 ) were as reported by others. The i.c.v. injection of PGE 2 and 5-HT inhibited rumen motility and slightly decreased the heart rate, probably due to a central action.
