Effect of GM_1 on Nerve Regeneration and Repair after Heterografting

2002
To observe the effect of GM1 on nerve regeneration and repair aft er heterografting Methods:The tibial nerves of rabbits were pretreated by repe ated freezing melting Thirty Wistar rats were divided into a GM1 group(n=20) and a control group(n=10) The tibial nerves in the GM1 group were soaked in G M1 liquor, but those in the control group were not managed At 2,4,6,8 and 10 weeks after grafting,HRP was injected into the distal portion of the rats sc iatic nerves Results:In the GM1 group,HRP lablled neurons were found in L4~5 spinal ganglia at the 2nd weeks and in the anterior horn of spinal cord at the 4th week after grafting In the control group,HRP lablled neurons were found in L4~5 spinal ganglia at the 4th weeks and in the anterior horn of spinal cord a t the 6th week after grafting After heterograftion, the number of the lablled n eurons in the GM1 group was markedly more than that in the control group(P0 0 1) The number of the lablled neurons increased with prolonged survival time A t the 10th week after grafting, the regeneration rate of the myelinated axons in the GM1 group was more than that in the control group(P0 01) Conclusion:G M1 may markedly promote the regeneration and repair of nervous fibers after hete rograftion
