SUMMARY Thenumerous methods usedfortreating ingrowing toe-nails aretestimony tothelack ofagenerally acceptable procedure withalowfailure rate. A simple procedure withnail preservation isdescribed, andtheresults oftreatment assessed. Theprocedure consists ofmakingatransposition flapofthenailwallafter preliminary curettage ofthe granulation tissue inthenail groove. A total of82patients weretreated bythis method overa3-year period, andtheresults in63patients wereassessed between 18months and 3years after surgery. A total of120operations werecarried outand110(92%)were successful. Thetreatnent iseffective, welltolerated, nottechnically difficult, and should beconsidered asanalternative tocurrent methods oftreatment.
