Communication Satisfaction Questionnaire
2020
The Communication Satisfaction Questionnaire (CSQ) was developed by C. W. Downs and Hazen in an attempt to discover the relationship between communication and job satisfaction. Initial items, based on literature reviews and interviews with workers, were given to 225 employees in the military, professional organizations, manufacturing organizations, hospitals, government agencies, and universities. Test-retest reliability of the CSQ was reported at.94. The global measure of job satisfaction is somewhat controversial in view of the Job Description Index in which job satisfaction is treated as multidimensional. The CSQ has become a popular instrument for analyzing communication processes in organizations. The CSQ has been used in Nigeria, Mexico, Taiwan, Guatemala, Australia, as well as in the United States. In a review of all the instruments used to measure communication satisfaction, Hecht commented: “The thoroughness of the construction of this satisfaction measure is apparent.
