Synthesis of α-esters of N-acylaspartic acid

Several pure α-esters of N-benzyloxycarbonyl-l-aspartic acid have been obtained in high yields by esterification of N-benzyloxycarbonyl-L-aspargine, followed by deamidation with nitrosonium hydrogen sulfate (NO · HSO4) in glacial acetic acid.
