Value of dynamic monitoring of blood pressure in prevention of target organ damage.

2009
Objective To investigate the relationship between ambulatory pulse pressure and target organ damage in senile essential hypertension. Methods Blood pressure fluntuations of hypertension patients were monitored day and night by using portable non-invasive ambulatory blood pressure cuff method, while the color Doppler ultrasound diagnostic observation of hypertension on target organ(heart) damage was also made. Results With aging, the pulse pressure showed markedly increasing tendency, that was an important determinant of LVMI,yet ambulatory blood pressure could monitor the pulse pressure fluctuations objectively and accurately,so as to control the target organ damage effectively. Conclusion Ambulatory pulse pressure in hypertension patients with cardiovascular events is an independent predictor. And ambulatory blood pressure monitoring can reflect the extent of hypertensive target organ damage.
