Chemistry and Biochemistry of DNA Radicals
1997
Many antibiotics of the bleomycin and enediyne family induce DNA strand cleavage by abstracting a hydrogen atom from the 4’-position of the deoxyribose unit thus forming 4’-DNA radicals as intermediates. Recently, we have synthesized the modified nucleosides 1 and 2 which are precursors of 4’-nucleoside radicals.1
