A versatile ion source for implantation facilities

A version of an arc-discharge ion source with electron oscillations is described. A graphite container with sputtered material is placed inside the gas-discharge chamber. The source can be used to generate ions of any element at a current density of {approximately}100{mu}A/cm{sup 2} and an energy ranging from 30 to 100 keV.
