Development of High-Temperature Image Probes for Viewing Turbine Engine Augmentors*

2002
The Arnold Engineering Development Center (AEDC) has a long history of developing intrusive probes for high-temperature applications. Probes have been developed for the measurement of total temperature, static and total pressure, enthalpy, and composition in a wide variety of test articles and facilities, spanning a wide range of flow conditions. Recently, AEDC has focused an effort on developing high-temperature imaging probes to provide direct viewing of processes in stationary gas turbine combustors and augmented and nonaugmented aircraft turbine engines. This paper discusses the design, development, and testing of these viewing probes; it also presents sample data from a variety of applications.
