Thermal treatment of coals of the Solntsevo coalfield in installations with a solid heat-transfer agent

The authors show that it is technically possible to use brown coals of the Solntsevo coalfield (Sakhalin Island) as the raw material for the Galoter process, which is carried out in installations with a solid heat-carrier (SHI). As a result of bench experiments, the characteristics of samples of the end products and byproducts were obtained, which can be produced in industrial solid-heat-carrier installations. In studying the thermal degradation of Solntsevo coals no harmful substances were formed and evolved, the utilization of which would have required increased capital costs and operating expenses for the construction of SHIs, which process that material. Investigations have confirmed that the production of liquid and gaseous fuels in such installations from Solntsevo coals will not exert an increased impact on the environment of Sakhalin Island.
