Behaviour of tetrabutylammonium tribromide under fast-atom bombardment using protic and aprotic matrices

Tetrabutylammonium tribromide in a protic matrix, under FAB desorptiono, does not provide the tribromide anion as it does in the gas phase. In contrast, using an aprotic matrix it gives a complex tribromide anion.
