The invention discloses a display method and a system of target position direction pointing information based on an electronic compass, which is applied to a handheld movable terminal. The electronic compass is built in the handheld movable terminal. The method comprises the following steps: obtaining positioning information of the handheld movable terminal and a target position; calculating the deviation angle between the direction of the target position pointed by the handheld movable terminal and the north geographic pole according to the positioning information of the target position and the handheld movable terminal, and displaying the direction pointing information of the target position according to the north geographic pole direction fixed by the electronic compass through geomagnetic field and the deviation angle between the direction of the target position pointed by the handheld movable terminal and the north geographic pole. The method and the system not only meet the requirement on small flow of the handheld movable terminal, but also can enhance the user experience on using position search service, are matched with the electric compass to ensure that the direction pointing information always points to the target position, and guarantee the accuracy of direction marks.
