Automatic and automatically adjusting backup operations

2011
There are here techniques for adjusting the frequency of backups and for triggering event-driven backups in a memory system is disclosed. In one embodiment, a self-adaptive active backup frequency, known as a target change rate, defined to be carried out on the basis of a value associated policy backups for one or more volumes in the storage system or delay. The change rate target may be associated with one or more business or data activity events such as the amount and type of data changes since a last backup. The storage system can be tailored as well, based on a change rate target, which measures whether a full or incremental or differential backup is suitable to perform full or incremental backups or delay. Various data or system failure or data or business events can also to customize the storage periods for the continuous data protection (CDP) underlying data and delaying the rollup of CDP data is used.
