The induced magnetic anisotropy in a cold-rolled Ni-Mo alloy

1965
In a Ni-Mo alloy molybdenum atoms render non-magnetic a certain proportion of the nickel atoms. Consistent with the Neel-Taniguchi directional order theory, the observed induced uniaxial anisotropy in a cold-rolled randomly oriented Ni-Mo alloy is considered to be caused by directed Ni-Ni pairs in a matrix of non-ferromagnetic molybdenum and modified nickel atoms. This is an unusual example of an induced anisotropy being due to a single kind of ferromagnetic atom.
