Mechanism of drug resistance in estrogen receptor positive breast cancer cell

2016
The most common malignancies which lead to death in females in many parts of the world is breast cancer. Estrogen a steroid hormone induces the complications of breast cancer. The estrogen plays a vital role in progression of breast cancer by either genomic action or non genomic action. Estrogen inhibits apoptosis, induces invasion and metastasis and also plays an important role in progression of angiogenesis. Various prosurvival pathways and elevated level of Reactive Oxygen Species also complicates breast cancer. Many drugs such as anti-estrogens have chemotherapeutic effects on the treatment and prevention of breast cancer. In spite of the development of many therapeutic options against breast cancer still there are chances of drug resistance. Hence we need such a treatment which can target estrogen its receptor and other signalling pathways which are involved in complicating the disease. Hence in this review article, we have tried to give a small introduction about combinational drug therapy which can be proved as an effective therapeutic measure against breast cancer and to overcome the issue of drug resistance.
