Comparación clínica entre la presión intraocular medida con tonómetro de Goldman y tonómetro transpalpebral

SUMMARY Purpose: To compare intraocular pressure measured with Goldman tonometer and pressure phosphene tonometer in patients with and without glaucoma. Methods: Intraocular pressure was measured with both tonometers in 200 eyes. Correlation between the measurements was evaluated taking the group as a whole, and dividing it in eyes with and without glaucoma. Results: A good to moderate statistically significant correlation was obtained between the tonometers (r=0.648 p=0.0001). The correlation decreases when intraocular pressure is higher than 20 mmHg. Nineteen percent of the eyes were unable to identify the phosphene. Conclusion: Pressure phosphene tonometer offers an alternative method for measuring intraocular pressure, especially in patients with corneal conditions that preclude the use of Goldman tonometry. It could also be useful to detect ocular hypertension.
