The entry of phosphate is prevented in the presence of metabolic inhibitors and its rate is dependent to a certain degree on the level of potassium and magnesium ions in the medium. The phosphate anion appears to enter the cell ty two parallel mechanisms with different kinetic parameters; both systems are inhibited by CCCP. As shown by a counterflow experiment, there is at least one carrier common for phosphate and arsenate
