Validity of the sheet demagnetising factor in characterisation of advanced metal particle tapes

Abstract This paper describes a model to test the validity of using the sheet demagnetising factor for advanced particulate tape magnetic measurements. The model predicts that, as the tape thickness and the volume packing fraction are reduced, the effective demagnetising factor deviates from the sheet value and, for a typical commercial advanced double coated MP tape, is in error by ∼6%.
