Optical Single-Sideband Direct Detection Transmissions: Recent Progress and Commercial Aspects

We discuss recent progress and commercialization of optical single-sideband direct detection systems with data rate of 100 Gb/s and beyond. Critical hardware requirements and signal processing challenges, especially for the cancellation of signal-signal beat interference, are reviewed.
