Investigation on effectiveness of persistent peritoneal lavage and somatostatin in the treatment of pancreatic fistula after pancreaticoduodenectomy

Objective To investigate the effectiveness of persistent peritoneal lavage and somatostatin in the treatment of pancreatic fistula after pancreaticoduodenectomy. Methods From January,2007 to January,2012,sixteen patients were diagnozed for pancreatic fistula after pancreaticoduodenectomy,and treated with persistent peritoneal lavage and somatostatin. Results All patients recovered from pancreatic fistula by our treatment,without severe complications such as peritoneal abscess,extra fistula,pyemia and hemorrhage. Conclusions Persistent peritoneal lavage and use of somatostatin is an effective method in the treatment of pancreatic fistula after pancreaticoduodenectomy.
