Transient sound excited by cylindrical shell transducer in shallow ocean

2016
Cylindrical shell transducers are widely used in underwater acoustic engineering. For example, free-flooded ring transducers are often used as transmitters in underwater acoustic communication devices. However, there are few papers about the transient sound field generated by cylindrical shell transducers in a shallow ocean. In this study, the problem of the transient sound generated by a cylindrical shell transducer in the shallow ocean is solved by the eigenfunction expansion method. The analytical solution obtained is explicit and concise, based on which the transient displacement and sound pressure corresponding to each mode excited by the cylindrical shell transducer in the shallow ocean is computed and analyzed. Moreover, the total transient sound pressure is obtained by superposing that corresponding to each excited mode.
