Sociocultural Resilience and Tourism

2014
Tourism, resilience, and culture are each complex and dynamic concepts, difficult to define and involving multiple social actors. This chapter considers the role of sociocultural resilience in tourism-reliant communities, with particular consideration of social capital as a source of resilience. We identify that while resilience has emerged in the tourism literature, the cultural aspect has been overlooked in many contexts, and therefore argue that more consideration of the social, cultural and community-based sources of resilience is required.
