this paper presents the required fundaments for design and construction of electromagnetic induction furnaces used by the metal-mechanics industry, especially for companies with low investment capacity, such as small and medium enterprises (SMEs). This article is generated from an existing project based on the induction furnace prototype design and construction. First the phenomenon of electromagnetic induction was researched, based on elementary physical laws (such as Faraday's law and Joule's law), these laws play an essential role for the design and implementation considerations, because electrical elements (such as transformers, inductors or capacitors) have direct dependence on these principles for optimal selection. And the other hand, is important to consider the materials properties to be processed, because the manipulated electrical parameters of these induction
