Temperature Calibration of a Passive Eight-Port Network for Noise Parameters Measurement

2015
We present a formulation for the calibration of a passive eight-port network, which could be used for extracting the noise wave correlation matrix of a two-port Device Under Test (DUT) from measurement of only noise figures and gains with a commercially available Noise Figure Analyzer (NFA). The extracted noise wave correlation matrix can be converted into conventional two-port noise parameters using well-known transformation relations. Significantly, a great deal of hardware minimization is attained with the use of the eight-port network; which performs the required interferometric action necessary to extract the self and cross-correlated power spectra emerging from the two-port DUT. Using a sample DUT, the proposed temperature calibration technique is theoretically verified to give results that are accurate and consistent with theoretically predicted noise parameters of a given DUT.
