KAPOSI'S sarcoma is a type of angiosarcoma in which the first manifestations frequently are purplish cutaneous nodules of the lower extremities. In the United States, it occurs more commonly in elderly Italian and Jewish men. Although an especially aggressive variety is endemic in black men in certain parts of Africa, it is rare in American black men. Recently, there has been an epidemic of Kaposi's sarcoma among homosexual men in New York City and California. 1 Report of a Case A 35-year-old homosexual man was admitted to Mount Sinai Medical Center of Greater Miami in August 1980 with a 2-cm reddish-blue firm plaque on the lateral aspect of his left thigh that had been present since May 1980.
