Relaxation of phenylacetylene-d1 in a liquid crystal

The dynamic behavior of phenylacetylene-d 1 dissolved in the nematic liquid-crystalline phase Merck ZLI-1695 is investigated by means of deuterium and 1 H NMR. Spectral densities J 0 (0), J 1 (ω), and J 2 (2ω) relevant for deuterium relaxation are obtained from a nonselective inversion recovery, a modified Jeneer-Broekert and a selective spin-echo experiment. The rotational correlation time, τ c , is calculated from J 2 (2ω). J 0 (0) can be explained more or less by rotational diffusion, but the value of J 1 (ω) is anomalously low
