Dear Editor, Lignin is a major polymer in the vascular plant secondary-thickened cell wall. This aromatic polymer provides hydrophobicity and strength to the cell wall, thereby facilitating vascular conductivity and upward growth. Mutations in lignin biosynthetic genes induce qualitative and/or
