Metamaterial Based MIMO Antenna Design for 5G Communication Systems

2021
In this study, metamaterial based 4 port MIMO antenna is designed at 28 GHz for 5G communication systems. Firstly, Antenna 1 is designed by placing resonator structures on one side of the microstrip feed line with a 50 Ω impedance value. In order to improve the radiation performance of Antenna 1, resonator structures, which is present on one side of the microstrip feed line have been added to the other side also. The obtained structures is called Antenna 2. Antenna 2 represents the unit cell structure of MIMO antenna. According to the simulation results at resonance frequency for each element, the antenna gain, directivity, Envelope Correlation Coefficient (ECC), and Diversity Gain (DG) is calculated approximately 9.9 dBi, 12.2 dBi, 0.0002, and 10 dB, respectively.
