The image display apparatus and an image recording method

2002
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image display device which can be mass-produced at a reduced manufacturing cost and can display a still image having good contrast. SOLUTION: A photoconductive layer 13 is provided on the surface of a transparent electrode 12. When the photoconductive layer 13 is irradiated with light through a negative monochrome original plate 21 on which the negative pattern of a display image is recorded, the resistance value of the photoconductive layer 13 decreases and the photoconductive layer 13 exhibits conductivity in accordance with the negative pattern. When a prescribed voltage is applied between the transparent electrode 12 and a precipitation electrode 15, silver contained in an electrolyte layer 14 is precipitated to form a silver layer 17 on the surface of the precipitation electrode 15. Since the surface of the area formed with the silver layer 17 is black, the reflectivity decreases and, in this way, a negative pattern (a still picture) is formed on the negative monochrome original plate 21. Thus, the still image can be recorded and displayed without using a complicated circuit constitution like the conventional matrix system. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
