herein disclosed embodiments relate generally to a magnetic head with a sensor stack and a bias material that is oriented in a direction perpendicular to a media facing surface direction. The sensor stack and a first portion of the bias material are supported laterally by synthetic anti-ferromagnetic or SAF structures and a second portion of the bias material is supported laterally by a dielectric material. In this configuration, the SAF structures whereby the disturbance of the bias material is minimized to be decoupled from the bias material.
