Thermal Analysis of the Yokeless and Segmented Armature Axial Flux In-wheel Motor

2020
The in-wheel motor for electric vehicles needs to meet the requirements of high power density and short axial length. The heat of the in-wheel motor has an impact on the reliability of the vehicle operation. In this paper, a novel yokeless and segmented armature axial flux in-wheel motor with cut amorphous alloy stator tooth is proposed. The electromagnetic loss of the motor is calculated. The heat conduction method of the amorphous magnet metal stator segment is analyzed. The equivalent thermal conductivity coefficient of equivalent winding and insulation is calculated. A three-dimensional thermal finite element model of the in-wheel motor is established. The temperature distribution of the motor is obtained. The thermal characteristics of the prototype proposed in this paper meet the requirements of the electric vehicle and can provide a reference for the thermal design of novel axial flux in-wheel motors.
