Investigation and analysis of psychological health state among the ship crew deployed at sea for a prolonged time

2013
OBJECTIVE To investigate the psychological features of the ship crew deployed at sea for a prolonged time, and analyze related influencing factors.Measurements of the physiological data of the ship crew deployed on the escort mission at month 1,3,5 and 7,by using SCL-90,and the measured results were compared in pairs with the norms of the Chinese military service members.(1)SCL-90 scores for the escort ship crew were obviously lower than the norms of the Chinese military service members(P0.01).(2)With the extension of escort mission, statistical differences could be noted in somatization, compulsion, hostility, depression and anxiety, when compared with the baseline scores detected at the beginning of the deployment(P0.01).The psychological health of the ship crew on the escort mission was on the whole in good status. However, with the extension of the escort mission,it tended to decline gradually. For this reason, effective countermeasures directed at characteristics of a prolonged deployment should be taken to protect the psychological health of the ship crew.
