A case of mucous retention cyst of the hard palate

1996
Mucous cysts of minor salivary glands are classified into two types: extravasation type and retention type. Mucous retention cysts have an epithelial lining and are uncommon. Our patient was a 9 -year-old girl with a painless mass at the right side of the hard palate. Radiographically, the right palatal bone was resorbed like a dome. The extirpated mass had a cystic cavity. Histopathologically, the cyst was lined mainly by simple cuboidal or columnar epithelium. Many goblet cells and the papillary proliferation of lined epithelial cells were also seen.
