The invention discloses an image pickup device for adaptively adjusting a picture. The image pickup device comprises an image acquisition module, a human face detection module and a picture adjustment module, wherein the image acquisition module acquires video stream; the human face detection module performs human face detection on an image in the video stream to determine the human face direction in the image; the picture adjustment module adjusts the picture display direction of the video stream according to the human face direction. The invention also discloses a method for adaptively adjusting the picture at the same time. The method comprises the following steps of: acquiring the video stream; performing the human face detection on the image in the video stream to determine the human face direction in the image; and adjusting the picture display direction of the video stream according to the human face direction. Compared with the prior art, the method has the advantages of adaptively adjusting the picture display direction of digital equipment or electronic equipment with the image pickup device through quick human face detection, and greatly improving the use comfort and usability of users.
