Self-consistent solution of the Vlasov-poisson equations for bounded, inhomogeneous plasmas

Abstract A self-consistent solution of the linearized one-dimensional Vlasov-Poisson equation is presented for spatially bounded, low-temperature inhomogeneous plasmas. An eigenvalue equation giving the central frequencies and electric fields of the resonance oscillations, and a formula for the Landau damping in terms of the resonance fields are given.
