Complete mitochondrial genome sequence of the Thomson’s gazelle (Eudorcas thomsonii)

2018
The Thomson’s gazelle (Eudorcas thomsonii) is listed as a “near threatenedspecies in the IUCN Red List due to a steep decline in its population size. Here we report the complete mitochondrial genome of E. thomsonii for the first time. The mitochondrial genome of E. thomsonii is 16,761 bp in length with a GC content of 38.4%; it contains 13 protein-coding genes (12S rRNA and 16S rRNA), 22 tRNA genes and a non-coding control region (D-loop). Among the tRNA genes, both tRNASer and tRNALeu are present in two copies. A molecular phylogenetic analysis of Gazella species demonstrated that the Thomson’s gazelle is closely related to the red-fronted gazelle (E. rufifrons). Thus, the complete mitochondrial genome of E. thomsonii can provide valuable genomic information for the conservation of this species.
