A novel patch antenna with photonic Bandgap substrate

A novel patch antenna with photonic Band-gap subst rat e was reported. The surface wave mode,impedance, radiation pattern, fre quency bandwidth and gain of this novel patch antenna are studied by the finite -difference time-domain (FDTD) method and were also compared with those of the conventional patch antenna. The results showed that the surface waves are significantly suppressed by the PBG substrate,which leads to im provements in the bandwidth and far field radiation pattern. 
