Cloning and sequencing of 16 S rRNA gene of Stenotrophomonas maltophilia from swine

2004
Stenotrophomonas maltophilia has been increasingly reported as nosocomial opportunistic pathgen, and responsible for serious infectious complications in immunocompromised patients. At present no information is reported on its infection and pathogenicity in animals. In this study. whole blood genomic DNA was extracted from clinical piglets. A 1 502 base-pair(bp) fragment of the 16 S rRNA gene of Stenotrophomonas maltophilia was amplified using the universal eubacterial primers. The result indicated that Stenotrophomonas maltophilia can infect pigs.
