Ultra‐wideband antenna design using FDTD and double population genetic algorithm

In this article, a method for the computer aided design of ultra-wideband (UWB) printed planar monopoles using double population genetic algorithm and finite-difference time domain (FDTD) is presented. A novel UWB antenna is obtained successfully. The measured return loss shows an impedance bandwidth of 12.75 GHz from 2.75 to 15.5 GHz for VSWR < 2. Moreover, the designed antenna has a good radiation characteristic with peak gains ranging from 0.9 to 6.97 dBi against operating frequencies. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
