The invention relates to a component with a surface (13) forming a ceramic layer (12), wherein in these nanoparticles (16) are introduced to reduce the wettability of the surface of hydrophilic liquids. According to the invention it is provided that these nanoparticles consist of aluminum oxide. Hereby may be achieved advantageously already at relatively low concentrations of nanoparticles (16) a significant reduction in wettability. Furthermore, it is advantageous to incorporate germicidal nanoparticles (18) in the layer to improve the self-cleaning ability of the surface (13).
