Importance of the Pontes Peninsula in Rhytidoplasty

2021
Introduction: Prof. Ronaldo Pontes peninsula technique was created in 1999 to overcome the problem of raising the sideburn hairline, one of the most undesirable stigmas in rhytidoplasty. Methods: The technique presents three variants: temporal, frontal, and frontal with precapillary incision. The selection of the variant depends on various factors that are specific to each patient. The type of implantation of the hairline is also one of the determining factors in this choice. Results: The patients had monthly postoperative follow-up for up to 6 months and 1 year later. Among the patients, there is little evidence of complications, indeed the same as those found in any facial surgery. Using of the peninsula technique, greater cutaneous traction is possible, along with greater correction of the middle and lower thirds of the face, maintaining the capillary implantation line. Conclusion: It may be concluded that the peninsula technique is easily reproduced and has a short learning curve. Besides this, it allows generous skin resection without alteration of the capillary implantation, acting in such a way that it avoids post-surgical stigmas and optimizes the quality of the results, leading to patient satisfaction.
