Leishmaniasis: een tropische ziekte: Drie Nederlandse kinderen met een Leishmania-infectie

Leishmaniasis is in the Netherlands a rare parasitic infectious disease. We describe three dutch children who presented last year with paleness and spiking fever due to visceral leishmaniasis. The diagnosis was based on the presence of intracellular amastigotes in bone marrow aspirates and confirmed by Leishmania specific antibodies or a positive culture. The patients were treated with liposomal amphotericin B, all with good results.
