A conduction angle controlled rectifier for a wound field doubly salient generator

The half-wave rectifiers have been adopted in the wound field doubly salient generators (WFDSGs). To improve the output power, a new half-wave rectifier with the controllable conduction angle for the WFDSM is presented in this paper. With a 12/8-pole WFDSM prototype, the finite element method is used in the simulation. The operation process with the new control scheme is analyzed. The simulation curves are compared with the half-wave rectifier mode. And the energy conversion loops are plotted and investigated too. The experiment waveforms show the good coincidence with the simulation. Furthermore, the external characteristics curves with different conduction angles and different field currents are also presented. It can be concluded that a WFDSG with the proposed rectifier has higher power output than the half-wave rectifier.
