Shape optimization by evolution strategy

1992
The random based evolution strategy is applied in conjunction with the finite element method for shape optimization by geometrical or material dependent parameters. The evolution strategy is presented and particularities of different methods are discussed. Results from the minimization of skin and proximity losses of multiconductor arrangements are presented. The evolution strategy was combined with numerical field calculation by the finite element method to minimize ohmic losses in cables. The evolution strategy proved to be applicable to optimization of the conductor shape. In comparison to circular conductors under comparable conditions the optimization resulted in a reduction of power losses of 50%. >
