Introduction: State-State Relations and New State-Business Relations—China in Malaysia

When President Xi Jinping began implementing China’s Belt-Road Initiative (BRI), this contributed to the emergence of state-state ties. These ties, forged by China with Southeast Asian countries who were privy to BRI-linked investments, contributed to the building of a new state-business order. This chapter provides an overview of this state-business order, fashioned by the governments of China and Malaysia.
