2021
Electricity is a specific good and it is a secondary energy source whose consumption in Croatia is growing almost continuously. At the same time, Croatia is one of the countries in Europe with the lowest electricity prices. In this final paper, the electricity market in the Republic of Croatia is analyzed. The theoretical part of the paper offers a definition of the market and its participants, as well as the categorization of different types of market structure with special emphasis on monopoly. In the empirical part of the paper, the electricity market is analyzed, especially electricity market suppliers. The analysis offers a comparison of prices of three different suppliers for the household category and the business user category. Although it was assumed that the liberalization of the electricity market would lead to numerous changes in this market, initially the loss of market share of HEP Group, HEP Group regained its market share in recent years and in 2020 the market share of the HEP group was 91.1%. Despite the existence of other electricity suppliers, the HEP Group is still the leading supplier on the market, a monopolist.
